The meeting, which was held at the Obas Complex in Abeokuta, was also attended by Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo and four governors from states in the North The governors were Abubakar Bello (Niger); Abubakar Bagudu (Kebbi); Bello Matawalle (Zamfara) and Abdulahi Ganduje (Kano) The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Yewa-axis of Ogun had in the recent past recorded series of clashes between cattle herders and local farmers leading to loss of lives and property. GOVERNORS under the umbrella of the Southwest Governors’ Forum on Monday converged on Akure, the Ondo State capital, to resolve and adopt the executive order of the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, that night grazing and underage herding should be banned across the region.
The meeting also resolved that free-range grazing must stop. According to them, this is important “so as to avoid conflicts between the farmers and herders.”
The meeting was called at the instance of the chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Dr Kayode Fayemi, following the executive order of Akeredolu that all Fulani herdsmen illegally occupying the state forest reserves should vacate within seven days, with effect from last Monday, January 18 or register with the state government.
Fani-Kayode said soldiers should be deployed against killer herdsmen and not ESN operatives.
A clash between ESN and soldiers had allegedly led to the death of one person while sours were wounded in Okporo, Orlu area of Imo State.
The clash was said to have occurred during a military operation in the community suspected to be the operational base of ESN.
ESN is a regional security outfit recently launched by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
Reacting to the development, Fani-Kayode described the clash as unfortunate.
In a tweet, the former minister wrote: “The clash between soldiers and members of ESN in Orlu, Imo State today has resulted in some deaths and this is unfortunate.

The governors also added that underage herding is inimical to security and hence be banned across the region.

The Federal Government has opened diplomatic channels on the plight of Nigerians awaiting deportation from Saudi Arabia.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha said this at the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefing on Monday in Abuja.
Mustapha, the Chairman of the PTF on COVID-19, said that “Nigeria is currently working with the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the deportation of 600 Nigerians.”
He said that the deportees were expected to arrive in two batches on Jan. 28 and 29 and would be quarantined for 14 days in line with COVID-19 protocols.
