On April 30, some persons were said to have attacked Alidu Mohammed, commander of the security committee in the community, and set ablaze his two cars, one of his houses, and other properties in the area.
One person was said to have died as a result of the incident.
According to the police, the crisis started over the allegation that Mohammed made blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammad.

Reacting to the development in a statement by Muyiwa Adejobi, Lagos police spokesperson, Odumosu warned residents to desist from actions that can trigger a religious crisis.
“The commissioner of police, Lagos state, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered the Lagos state police command the arrest of thirteen (13) leaders of warring groups of Gengere Community, Mile 12, Ketu Area of Lagos State for their alleged involvement in the crisis that was orchestrated by some hoodlums in the Community on 30th April 2021 at about 3:30pm,” the statement reads.

The police in Lagos say they have restored normalcy to the Mile 12 area of the state, following a crisis over an alleged blasphemy of Prophet Mohammed.
Muyiwa Adejobi, the police spokesperson, said in a statement on Tuesday that leaders of ’13 warring groups’ were summoned by the Commissioner of Police.
There was unrest at Mile 12 area on Monday with sporadic shootings and the use of dangerous weapons by the groups.
The police said preliminary investigation into the crisis revealed that the “Commander of Security Committee in Gengere Community, Alhaji Alidu Mohammed, was alleged to have disrespected and blasphemed Prophet Mohammed (SAW).”

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered the arrest of thirteen leaders of warring groups of Gengere community, Mile 12, in the Ketu area.
They are accused of involvement in the violence orchestrated by some thugs in the afternoon of April 30.
Odumosu gave the order during the interrogation of invited community heads at the State Headquarters, Ikeja.

In reaction, hoodlums went on rampage, attacked him, set ablaze his two cars, vandalised one of his houses and burned a building belonging to one Alhaji Mamuda.

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered the arrest of 13 leaders of warring groups of Gengere Community, Mile 12, Ketu Area of Lagos.
The Police Public Relations Officer PPRO in Lagos, CSP Olumuyiwa, Adejobi said in a statement that the CP ordered the arrests over their alleged involvement in the crisis that was orchestrated by some hoodlums in the community on April 30 at about 3.30pm.
Adejobi said the order for the arrest of the leaders was given during interrogation and interview session with the leaders by the CP at the Conference Room, State Headquarters, Ikeja on Tuesday, May 4.
