Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf is preparing to visit Niamey, the capital of Niger, to discuss the arrangements for the Algerian mediation in the country’s crisis, according to Algeria’s foreign ministry. Niger has accepted an Algerian offer to mediate in its political crisis, the ministry said. Algeria received Niger's official notification of its acceptance of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's mediation initiative, the ministry added in a statement read out on national television.
Niger is in mourning on Tuesday after the death of 29 soldiers in a jihadist attack, at a time when the military regime agreed to examine an offer of mediation from Algeria for a "political solution" to the crisis.

The People's Democratic Republic of Algeria has warned against military intervention in Niger Republic in a bid to restore democracy following the July 26 coup d'etat that ousted the country's president Mohamed Bazoum. A statement issued by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad on Saturday said military intervention in Niger will bring more problems than solutions, and also worsen terrorism in the West African region.
