Gervonta Davis vs Mario Barrios official, June 26 on Showtime PPV

Photo by Scott Taetsch/Getty Images After winning titles at super featherweight and lightweight, Gervonta Davis is officially set to challenge WBA “world” super lightweight champion Mario Barrios on June 26th in the main event of a four-fight Showtime pay-per-view. Davis (24-0, 23 KO) took the IBF super featherweight title from Jose Pedraza in 2017 and defended it with a three-round wipeout of Liam Walsh, only to lose it on the scales against Francisco Fonseca. He went on to claim the WBA belt in the division, move up to 135 to smash Yuriorkis Gamboa for the “world” belt, and defend both at the same time via cretinous WBA shenanigans with a Knockout of the Year candidate against Leo Santa Cruz last October.

Luke Campbell Gives Nothing But Praise To Ryan Garcia: He s Very Heavy-handed, I Wanted To Beat The Count But Just Couldn t

Posted on 01/03/2021 By: Hans Themistode Luke Campbell has been hit with some hard shots during his career. None however, have left him as debilitated as Ryan Garcia’s left hook to the body did last night at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. Before Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs) drilled his man in the seventh round of their contest, Campbell appeared to be just fine. Outside of the fifth round where he was visibly hurt, the lightweight contender had his poker face on for most of the night. Still, even as he kept a straight face as Garcia’s shots zipped past his face and occasionally found a home, Campbell admitted that the shot that ultimately ended the night, as well as those that came before it, were unlike anything he’s ever felt.

Showtime Undercard Recap: Richardson Hitchins Decisions Algenis Mendez

Posted on 12/12/2020 By: Sean Crose The co-main event of Saturday night’s Showtime Chris Colbert-Jaime Arboleda card from Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun Arena featured the 11-0 lightweight Richardson Hitchins  as he faced off against the 25-3-3 Algenis Mendez in a scheduled 10 rounder. Hitchins was clearly the attraction, but the veteran Mendez had plans for the Floyd Mayweather promoted fighter. Hitchins, with fast, jerky hand movement, started confidently, flicking out his jab effectively right from the opening bell. Mendez, on the other hand, chose to spend the first applying pressure. Hitchins continued to toss off punches in the second. Meanwhile, Mendez began to be able to land effectively. The third saw Mendez continue to pursue his man. Hitchins, however, was clearly throwing with more frequency.

Showtime Weekend Preview: Chris Colbert-Jaime Arboleda, Richardson Hitchins-Argenis Mendez, Ronald Ellis-Matt Korobov

Posted on 12/11/2020 By: Sean Crose Rising junior lightweight Chris Colbert will be appearing on Showtime’s Saturday night card, which will be broadcast live from Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun Arena. The 14-0 Brooklyn native will be squaring off against the 16-1 Jaime Arboleda in a scheduled 12 round affair. At stake will be the WBA Interim Super Featherweight Championship, which Colbert is currently in possession of. Colbert was last in the ring way back in January when he bested Jezzrel Corrales by unanimous decision. Arboleda was last in action last February, when he topped Jayson Velez by split decision. This might prove to be a boxer-puncher matchup, as Arboleda has knocked out 13 of his opponents, while Colbert is more apt to win on the cards, as is evidenced by his five knockouts in fourteen fights.
