Algarve unemployment drops
Unemployment recorded in the Algarve decreased by 3.5% in April, in comparison with data from March, according to data released by the Job Centre (IEFP).
According to the figures, the Algarve had, at the end of the last month, 32,271 unemployed registered with job centres, 1,182 fewer people than in March.
This drop is believed to be partly due to the fact that hotels, resorts, cafes, restaurants and shops have reopened, as well as with the resumption of some air connections.
Alentejo and Algarve most affected by climate change

CO2 emissions have also been on an upward trend since 2005.
This is according to findings by researchers from Lisbon University’s Faculty of Sciences, who predict rainfall will decrease while average temperatures will increase, causing more heat waves and prolonged droughts.
Albufeira begins mass testing of residents and tourists
Albufeira Town Council has today started a free testing operation to screen residents and tourists for Covid-19 so that the municipality can proceed “safely” to the third phase of the easing of lockdown.
In a statement, the municipality in the Algarve states that the testing centre, located in the car park in front of the City Hall, will operate daily between 9am and 12pm and between 5pm and 8pm.
Albufeira is one of six counties in the country that was unable to advance to the third phase of easing of lockdown, which started on April 19, remaining in the second phase due to the high incidence of cases of covid-19 per 100 thousand inhabitants in 14 days.
The Mayor of Vila Real de Santo António has renounced her mandate after being arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of irregularities in the running of the Algarve.
