Border officials apprehend migrants and typically take them to a processing facility before they’re transferred to other federal agencies, though some are released into local communities, a former border official told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Non-governmental organizations and charities are helping migrants connect with family members across the U.S. and funding their travel to those destinations.
Border officials now have the authority to decide whether to release illegal migrants without setting court dates and instead tell them to report to a local Immigration and Customs Enforcement office at their final destination.
When migrants are discharged from Customs and Border Protection custody, they’re transferred to another government agency or released into local communities, a former border official told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
