The first ever Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGASS) devoted to the Challenges and Measures to Prevent and combat Corruption and Strengthen International Cooperation was held in a hybrid format in New York from 2 to 4 June.
During the opening plenary session on 2 June, Justice Minister Marta Cartabia, in a passage of her intervention by remote, stressed that
corruption is a global threat that tests our societies and economies, hindering sustainable economic growth and distorting competition in the market, undermining the rule of law and trust between citizens and governments. It also constitutes a serious obstacle to the development of the prosperity and security of our countries and our communities . The G20 process will continue in the coming days of January. On the 25th the first meeting of the Deputy Ministers of the Economy and the Deputy Governors of the Central Banks will take place. The Health Working Group will meet on 26th and 27th of January, with a focus on the impact of the COVID-19 emergency on the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. Finally, on 28th and 29th, the working group on Education will officially kick off its activities.
