DOVER, Del. – Dover Police arrested a Smyrna man on drug and firearms charges during a traffic stop late Friday night.
We’re told just before 11 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle on N. DuPont Highway at Rustic Lane for an equipment violation. While contacting the driver, and sole occupant, 35-year-old Alfred Hawkins III, officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 6 grams of marijuana and a loaded 9mm handgun.
Hawkins was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and traffic violations. He was later released on his own recognizance.
