DEPUTY Senate President, DSP, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and other leading politicians have discovered an impediment in the long-standing pact between South-South region and the North as a political power and have quietly initiated moves to modify the alignment.
Senator Omo-Agege representing Delta South Senatorial district in the Senate who related with Vanguard the subject and more, confirmed: “For some time now, there has been a setback in terms of the historical alignment pattern of the South-South. I am happy to say, however, that some other well-meaning South-South politicians have begun to redress this gap. We have made giant strides, but there is still a lot of work to be done.”
Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party, (nPDP), has berated Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike’s approach to the containment of the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic in the State following the non-compliance with established health advisory and regulations, as he toured few places to inaugurate road projects.
In a press statement made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday, Eze posited that it is sheer recklessness for Governor Wike to mobilize and risk the lives of royal fathers, political leaders and the poor masses just to witness his showbiz of self praise in the name of commissioning road projects, some which were initiated by his predecessor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Cross River State has denied reports that thirteen corps members tested positive for COVID-19 in the State.
Mr Enuma Peter, NYSC’s Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations unit, said no corps member currently in the orientation camp in Calabar, tested positive.
“NYSC wishes to assert that presently, no registered 2020 Batch B Stream II corps member in Cross River is COVID-19 positive.
“It is worthy to note that all prospective corps members for the ongoing programme underwent COVID-19 test conducted by the National Centre for Disease Control, which is a condition for admission into any of the 37 camps in the country.”

DENNIS NAKU looks back as the Niger Delta perceived marginalisation and examines the report of a survey by an online newspaper, the New Diplomat, on why the 13 per cent derivation should be paid directly to the host communities and not states
In the last decade, there has been growing agitation by various groups in the Niger Delta for a better deal for the proverbial goose that lays the golden egg.
The Niger Delta region despite producing oil, the mainstay of the nation’s economy, has suffered neglect, environmental degradation such as pollution of rivers and farmlands.
The continued silence of the Federal Government to the plight of the region and the perceived marginalisation of the people gave rise to the emergence of various groups in the region, including the dreaded militant group, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, and more recently, the Niger Delta Avengers.
