SOP violation: Mustapa apologises, leaves it to police to investigate

KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed (pix) has apologised for breaching the standard operating procedures (SOP) of Phase One of the Movement Control under the National Recovery Plan and left it to the police to take necessary actions. According to a statement from the Minister s Office in the Prime Minister s Department (Economy) yesterday, Jeli district police chief DSP Ahmad Arifin contacted Mustapa at yesterday noon after photos of the minister at Alfath Cafe in Jeli went viral on social media. It said Ahmad told Mustapa that the police had opened an investigation paper regarding the matter.

It is understood that Mr Mustapa, who is the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economic), had gone to a cafe in his Jeli constituency to meet a young entrepreneur running his business under lockdown restrictions. Mr Mustapa visited the cafe at 5.30pm on Saturday (June 26), according to a statement from the minister s office issued a day later. The 26-year-old owner of the cafe showed Mr Mustapa how he harnessed social media to continue running his cafe, which serves western cuisine.

KOTA BARU (Bernama): Police have recorded the statement of a cafe owner in Kalai, Jeli, about 108km from here, in connection with investigations into alleged breach of the Covid-19 prevention standard operating procedure (SOP) by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed. Jeli OCPD Deputy Supt Ahmad Arifin said the cafe owner gave his statement at the Jeli district police headquarters on Sunday (June 27) afternoon. After seeing a viral photo (of the incident), we called up the cafe owner to give a statement. Apart from him, police will call three other individuals (including Mustapa) soon to help in the investigation.
