Jurors in the trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin over the death of George Floyd will start their first full day of deliberations this morning, after closing arguments were made yesterday.
Floyd died after Chauvin kept his knee on his neck for more than nine minutes.
The prosecution argued that Chauvin’s force was unnecessary, defied his training, and caused Floyd’s death. They argued it was ludicrous to suggest that Floyd’s heart disease had killed him at the exact moment he was pinned down by Chauvin.

Joe Biden is expected to lay out his plans for tackling the climate crisis this week, and call on the world’s other major economies to join him in slashing greenhouse gas emissions in the next decade.
Biden and his climate envoy, John Kerry, will host a virtual summit of 40 world leaders to discuss the climate crisis and steps they can take to tackle it. There, the US is set to unveil its own plan for cutting emissions over the coming 10 years. This has the potential to be a turning point in the approach to the climate crisis; if the plan is bold enough, it could encourage other countries to step up their own climate goals.

I have been following the story of Alexei Nalvany.
Nalvany is a political activist in Russia. In August last year, the United States, United Kindgom, and European Union imposed sanctions on senior Russian officials, believing that Nalvany was poisoned at the command of Vladimir Putin and Russia’s Federal Security Service.
After being medically evacuated, Nalvany recovered in Germany. However, when he returned to Russia in January of this year, he was immediately arrested and imprisoned.
During a court appearance on February 20, Nalvany was asked to give his last word in his own defense. His speech is intriguing.
