Alexandria Among Areas with Highest Median Income in Virginia
A SmartAsset study looked at incomes, costs of living and more nationwide.
The analysis was completed as part of the companyâs study on the places with the most purchasing power, and cost of living was factored into the calculations.
In Virginia, the places with the highest median income are concentrate in Northern Virginia (except for no. 10 on the list, Poquoson, which is just north of Norfolk). Ã Ã
The places with the lowest cost of living in the state are in southwest Virginia.Â
Nationwide, the three places with the highest median incomes are all in Virginia: Loudoun County has a median income of $142,299 and ranks first, followed by the City of Falls Church ($127,610) and Fairfax County ($124,831).
New Harris Teeter Set to Open in Early Summer in Alexandria
The new Harris Teeter opening in Alexandria s West End will be the third in the city.
The Gateway
The Gateway, a mixed-use development, is set to open in early 2019 in Alexandria and will include affordable housing.
Alexandria will get its third Harris Teeter grocery store, opening in early summer according to signs posted across the front of the store, at 4600D King St.
The new store, 62,000 square feet in size, will be located at West Alex, the new development that also includes Array, an apartment building and the Silver Diner restaurant that opened on the corner of King and N. Beauregard streets. West Alex is owned by Weingarten Realty.
Chamber of Commerce Concludes Independent Investigation into Harassment Allegations
A December article in Business Insider alleged sexual harassment by the Chamber CEO in his prior position with the Alexandria-based United Way Worldwide.
The Chamber of Commerce announced Thursday that it has concluded an independent investigation following the publication in late December of a Business Insider article alleging inappropriate behavior by United Way Worldwide excecutives.
Joe Haggerty, the CEO of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce (The Chamber ALX) was one of the people mentioned in the Business Insider article. Haggerty was an executive at the United Way Worldwide more than 5 years ago when the reported sexual harassment occurred. Haggerty has denied the allegations and the article did not report on any allegations connected to Haggertyâs time with The Chamber ALX.
