Residents vented their anger on the streets when officials from Joburg City Power removed illegal connections in the River Park and London Road areas. An altercation broke out between Alexandra locals and security personnel when residents tried to force their way into the mall.
City Power said they intervened after complaints were received from residents in formalised houses who have been experience outages because of the overloading.

JOHANNESBURG – Senior officials from the office of Johannesburg member of the mayoral committee (MMC) for Environment and Infrastructure, Mpho Moerane, are, on Friday, expected to meet the community of River Park in Alexandra to discuss illegal electricity connections.
On Thursday, residents barricaded the main entrance of the area, forcing City Power to abandon its operation intended to cut off illegal operators.

JOHANNESBURG – City Power abandoned its operation aimed at cutting illegal power connections in Alexandra after residents stopped officials from disconnecting their electricity in River Park.
Officials turned back when residents blocked the main entrance to the community on Thursday morning.
