Each month — year-round, rain, snow or shine, hot or cold — the local arts scene puts on a communitywide party: the First Friday art walk. Galleries build their calendars
It’s time to take to the streets and soak up some culcha, folks! Here’s a selection of May openings, but you can find more First Friday events at downtowncs.com/first-friday and
Novis Mortem Collective isnât your usual gallery.
Yes, beautiful and provocative art work hangs on the walls and inhabits the space, but itâs likely your gaze will be drawn to the vast array of glass domes housing all manner of the natural world. Youâll certainly spot the electric blue morpho butterflies from Costa Rica spreading their sizable wings. And the orange-colored stink bugs. Gray, papery dragonflies. Hornetâs nests. Giant flying black beetles that will have you reconsidering a move to wherever they exist. And tentacled octopuses the size of your hand quietly bobbing in water.
Donât worry, though. All these creatures are no longer among the living. And to also ease your mind â none of them have been killed for the sole purpose of preservation and human gawking.
