Ex-guerrilla Gustavo Petro has been elected the first ever left-wing president of Colombia, after beating millionaire businessman Rodolfo Hernandez in a tense and unpredictable runoff election.
With more than 99.9 percent of votes counted, Petro the 62-year-old former mayor of Bogota held an unassailable lead of 50.45 percent compared to Hernandez s 47.3 percent.
