Two new weather stations are scheduled to be placed in the Brushy Mountains in late December or early January to help address insect and disease problems in orchards.
Initial funding was a $4,800 Extension Innovation Grant from North Carolina State University for a weather station at an elevation of about 2,200 feet in Perry Lowe Orchards off Price Road in the Pores Knob community of Wilkes County.

Snyder said that with small contributions from Alexander County orchardists and the Alexander County Cooperative Extension Service, a second weather station will be installed at an elevation of about 1,200 feet in Lindsey Dealâs orchard off N.C. 16 in the Sugar Loaf community of Alexander. Alan Deal, who is Lindsey Dealâs son, is assisting with installation.
