we ve heard all of this talk about how we have been here before as a nation with a former criminal president and we had to wrestle with what to do about it. now, gerald ford made that decision, alex, on behalf of the american people. he said the way to heal the nation is to decline to prosecute a criminal former president. can i tell you, alex, 30 years as a prosecutor, i dealt with more victims than i can count. you know what i never once said to the victim, the way to heal, the way to deal with the offenses that have been committed against you is to decline to hold the perpetrator accountable. that, alex, represents the opposite of healing. we need accountability, america has been victimized by donald trump, perhaps bill barr and others. they need to be held accountable. so congressman eric swalwell,
essentially believed the russian president over his own intelligence. that was a travesty, i think, in american history. and so biden has a very low bar to clear in that sense. he s already said he s going to be tough, he s going to speak in a way that will be very different. and i think that s part of the reason why putin is coming out ahead of that with this interview, and he s trying to project power and trying to project to a foreign audience, but also a domestic audience. so his dismissiveness about the people killed, very sort of trump-ian, as you said, in terms of the way that he s trying to appear to be bigger than all of this. a lot of rhetoric in the next few days, that s what we re going to see. but i think ultimately biden will come across as very different, just because of the pure biological fact that he is not trump. alex, if i can add to this, i think this is very empowering for joe biden and for the united states as well.
reporter: and, alex, as we discuss the range of issues involving the relationship with china and countering china s rise, that will also include areas of cybersecurity, all setting the stage for additional meetings once the president leaves and moves on to brussels for a nato summit, as well as a meeting with the european union leaders. and then it s all eyes on geneva and that confrontation with russian president vladimir putin. yesterday the president was asked if he had a message for putin, and he said he would share it after he shared it with the russian president, alex. that was probably wise, to speak to the russian president first. by the way, boris johnson clearly watching the campaign with the borrowing of the build back better phrase. sarah, to you with the president and first lady having spoken to queen elizabeth on the sidelines, ahead of the more formal meeting that is set for tomorrow, it certainly seemed
approximately 10 million doses to be used here in the u.s. and abroad, but it does come with a warning that the plant where these drugs were manufactured, the vaccines were manufactured, may not have followed good manufacturing practices. alex, you might remember not too long ago back in april, emergent bio solutions, the baltimore facility, was in the headlines for all the wrong reasons once again. there was an inspection at this facility and it suffer issed several violations, continuing a contamination of the j&j vaccine, with a key ingredient of astrazeneca s vaccine. so this facility in baltimore has been under a lot of scrutiny and it s still under the careful watch of inspectors. and right now, as far as we know, it is closed until further notice. but apparently later on this month we should have a bit of a development as far as when the facility can reopen again. i m curious how this affects
today s focus. what can you tell us? reporter: well, alex, we ve been talking about it for about five months, what has been the focus of president biden s agenda at home. it s been tackling the pandemic, jump-starting the economy, and then, of course, infrastructure. what has been the focus of president biden here at the g7? it has been tackling the pandemic, it has been jump-starting the global economy, and today it is all about infrastructure. the president is going to be meeting behind closed doors on fellow world leaders on what they re calling building back better for the world, an infrastructure plan that is designed to close what officials say is a $40 trillion gap in infrastructure in the developing world. this is all about countering china s rise. china has for years been pursuing what it calls the belt and road initiative. it has been working throughout the world to spread influence by helping invest in countries who desperately need these kind of infrastructure improvement
