State wildlife officials issued a brief news release Wednesday countering an earlier report of a bear sighted near an animal carcass in the area of Giant Springs State Park. On the afternoon of Tuesday April 27, Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks investigated reports of a bear feeding on a carcass near the Sulphur Springs area of Giant Springs State Park, the news release states. The investigation found no evidence of a bear or a carcass.
The release came in response to several earlier media reports urging the public to avoid the area between Morony Dam and Sulphur Springs while FWP officials investigated an unattributed claim that a bear on a carcass had been sighted in the vicinity.
