Apr. 9 Five new North Carolina charter schools were approved Thursday to open in 2022, including a school that had been opposed by the Wake County school system.
Wake school leaders argued that allowing Triangle Math and Science Academy to open a second charter school would increase segregation in the district. But the State Board of Education voted Thursday to grant the additional charter, siding with Triangle s track record of academic success and promise to diversify the new school.

In the Canadian province of Quebec, no party sitting in the provincial parliament dares to question the mammoth size of government. But strangely enough, only one party openly embraces socialism: Québec solidaire (QS). Their motto could be boiled down to “There is no salvation without the State.”
This conclusion is quite obvious when reading a recent Facebook post written by a leader of the left-wing party.
Some schools seeking charter renewals might benefit from the suspension of state testing that followed the 2019-20 academic year.
The tests were called off after the COVID-19 pandemic forced schools to close for in-person instruction. That means achievement data isn’t available for that year to determine whether schools met state academic requirements.
The Charter School Advisory Board (CSAB) voted Tuesday to extend the charter renewal schedule for two schools from seven years to 10. If approved by the State Board of Education, Healthy Start Academy in Durham and Union Prep Academy at Indian Trail, a Union County charter, will move from a seven-year renewal schedule to a 10-year schedule.
