Economic times do not come much more uncertain than those now prevailing, with both the Covid-19 pandemic and Brexit cutting swathes though previous assumptions about both how to run a business and how to shape a place.
An LGC roundtable on “the role of councils in supporting businesses in economic uncertainty”, held in association with Hitachi Solutions, revealed not just mayhem and misery but signs that some positives could come from recent events, ranging from better relations with local businesses to the unsuspected extent of community capacity.
The pandemic has devastated many businesses and local economies, and restrictions are likely to persist at least until mass vaccinations kick in. The economic impact could be felt for years.
