captioning sponsored by wpbt susie: good evening, everyone. apple stock closed above $600 a share for the first time ever surging almost 3%. investors gobbled up the stock, after the company announced it will pay a quarterly dividend and launch a stock buyback. tom, first the new ipad and now a dividend. tom: apple investors have been calling for a dividend for a long, long time. here s what shareholders can expect. they ll get a quarterly dividend of $2.65 a share, starting july 1. apple also announced it will buy back $10 billion of its own stock starting in september 2013. the moves will use some of the company s $100 billion cash war chest. susie: apple is the latest company increasing buybacks and dividend payouts. share repurchase agreements are at the highest levels since before the financial crisis. and dividend payments now stand at record levels. but which is better for shareholders: dividends or stock buybacks? erika miller reports. reporter: buybacks have

today at johns hopkins hospital. tonight we ve learned the gunman and his mother lived in arlington. fox 5 is working all the angles on this story and begin with bob barnard live at the hospital. reporter: tonight the johns hopkins hospital is reportedly back operating as usual, but this place was chaotic during the midday. for a little more than two hours thursday one of the nation s most prestigeous hospitals became an uncertain crime scene with shots fired inside baltimore s johns hopkins hospital. it s scary just knowing that someone is on the outside on a rampage with a gun in a hospital where we re supposed to be protected. reporter: baltimore police say just after 11 a.m. a doctor was shot in the hallway on the eighth floor. the alleged gunman, so not of a female patient originally the son of a female patient originally identified as warren davis. mr. davis was receiving some news about the care and the condition of his mother just outside the doorway to that
nightmares a the wheaton metro station closed several hours. the gates were shut and riders detoured because there is no way down into the tunnel. wheaton passengers are fed up. half the time they can t get all three escalators working and the elevator working at the same time. so when i found out the station was closed, i was not the least bit surprised. reporter: riders were bussed around the wheaton station on shuttles. the problem? metro says all of its escalators and elevators are out of service at the station. the shuttle bus is going take forever. i need to get on the train. i found out that the wheaton station was closed. probably it was about five minute before we got to the stop and minutes before we got to the stop and they told us that there was a shuttle here. reporter: it s one of the deepest stations. in fact, passengers say heading down into the tunnel is a grueling walk. there it that would be a terrible walk for me. i m very disappointed in the
