In the deepening of the already cozy relationship between President Joe Biden and Big Labor, Fox News reports on waivers given to certain Biden administration appointees who had prior Union ties:
The Biden administration has come under scrutiny from Republicans on Capitol Hill following its decision to circumvent federal ethics rules and staff former union officials in senior posts.
Beginning as early as March, the White House waived certain rules for former labor union personnel slotted to fill Biden’s transition teams and government vacancies, who would have otherwise been prevented from communicating with their old unions.
In yet another example of Democrat double standards, Joe Biden has waived ethics rules intended to prevent unions from having undue influence with the executive branch. Fox News reports, âBeginning as early as March, the White House waived certain rules for former labor union personnel slotted to fill Bidenâs transition teams and government vacancies, who would have otherwise been prevented from communicating with their old unions.â
Thus far, two former union officials who are now part of the Biden administration â Alethea Predeoux at the Office of Personnel and Management and Celeste Drake, who leads the administrationâs Made In America Office â have been granted waivers from the ethics rule. “Not all ethics waivers are bad,” said a former director of the Office of Government Ethics.
Soon after taking the oath of office in January, President Biden issued a sweeping ethics pledge for executive branch personnel. But shortly thereafter, the administration granted waivers to two labor leaders to allow them to serve in senior positions, drawing the ire of some conservatives along with charges of hypocrisy. “Labor’s sizable personnel presence in the administration is driving policy,”
Axios reported on Friday. “And the president’s appointment of top union officials to senior posts gives those unions powerful voices in the federal bureaucracy even at the cost of strictly adhering to his own stringent ethics standards.”
