English-speaking CEGEPs in Quebec may have to cut their language programs because of the province s new French-language law (Bill-96). The change will see students taking more French courses and leaving out other languages, which means language departments at English colleges such as Vanier College may be in jeopardy.
After McGill’s music conservatory closed last year, Vanier College is now offering music lessons. The dean says in recent years, many high schools have chosen to fund STEM programs over the arts which has resulted in a lack of available lessons.
Alena Perout, dean of the faculty of arts, business, and social sciences at Vanier College, initiated the Sheldon Sazant Memorial Fund, in honour of the former manager of Steve's Music.
