Kurtenbach: 10 surefire reasons to get excited for the 2021 Warriors [Mercury News]
Dec. 21 It’s been a long, long time since we’ve seen the Warriors play a meaningful basketball game more than a year if we’re being honest about the way the Warriors played last season.
But the 2021 NBA season is here, with the Warriors tipping off their campaign Tuesday night in Brooklyn against old friend Kevin Durant.
How’s this season going to play out? That’s anyone’s guess. But no matter how the Warriors finish, these are 10 things to be excited about all season long:
10. Basketball is fantastic
Days before the 2020-21 NBA season officially begins, several interesting trade ideas continue to surface in the league. These include a blockbuster deal that could enable the Golden State Warriors to land two reliable veterans from the Houston Rockets before the 2021 trade deadline. In the proposed trade scenario by Greg Patuto of
NBA Analysis Network, the Warriors would send a package that includes Andrew Wiggins and Alen Smailagic to the Rockets in exchange for Eric Gordon, PJ Tucker, and a 2021 first-round pick.
As of now, the Warriors haven t shown a strong indication that they are planning to move Wiggins, but the suggested deal would undeniably intrigue them. By sacrificing an inconsistent player with only a year of playoff experience, Golden State would be landing two reliable veterans in Gordon and Tucker, who are battle-tested in the postseason.

How the Warriors plan to mold Alen Smailagic into a floor-spacing big man [Mercury News]
Dec. 14 It could be easy to confuse Alen Smailagic’s goofy grin, broken English and doe-eyed demeanor as marks of a bashful 20-year-old who is just happy to be here. But make no mistake, give Smailagic a goal and his competitive streak reveals itself, and his grin fades to a grimace.
This is what Warriors player development coach Seth Cooper discovered when working with Smailagic last season. So when workouts were limited this offseason to a single player and coach working one-on-one because of the coronavirus, Cooper challenged Smailagic to make as many 3-pointers as he could in five minutes.
