Milwaukee’s 5th district has been without a Common Council representative since former Alderwoman Nikiya Dodd stepped down last fall. Seven candidates were vying for the seat representing Milwaukee’s far northwest side. The February primary narrowed it down to Annette Jackson and Lamont Westmoreland.
Twenty percent of Milwaukee’s Common Council seats are empty, and they have been for months. That means some residents had no one voting for them on the budget, that very important document that sets city priorities and send money to all city projects.
Milwaukee Alderman Nikiya Dodd will resign at the end of November, meaning one-third of Milwaukee residents will have no representative on the Council.
