We’ve still got local elections in 2021… and a full slate of statewide races in 2022.
But we already have what may be the first announcement of a candidacy for 2023. Springfield Ward 2 Alderman Shawn Gregory tells the WMAY Morning Newsfeed that he will definitely be seeking another term in the next city elections… two years from now. Gregory was first elected in 2019… but only after his opponent, former alderwoman Gail Simpson, was initially declared the winner and sworn in.
A recount ultimately led to the race being declared a tie… and Gregory won the seat on a random ball draw.
