Kingston mayor orders affordable rent requirement for new projects

KINGSTON, N.Y. â Mayor Steve Noble has signed an executive order that wouldÂ require all developers seeking approval for plans of more than five apartments to make 10 percent of them affordable. The affordable housing order would allow up a family of five people with a household income of $72,350 to qualify.Â In Kingston, Executive Orders are in effect for 30 days, at which time they can be renewed for another 30 days, said Summer Smith,Â director of the city communications and community engagement. - Advertisement - The executive order applies to housing proposed across Kingston with affordable defined as 80% of Area Mean Income (AMI), âbased on current Ulster County statistics with adjustments for family size,â a press release says.

KINGSTON, N.Y.Â â Julie Noble, the city s environmental education and sustainability coordinator and wife of Mayor Steve Noble, says she has not been given an opportunity to review allegations made against her by four members of the Common Council and that, like her husband, she has not been contacted by the state Attorney General s Office regarding the investigation requested by the lawmakers.Â When people in power make accusations, whether they are true or false, they carry tremendous weight, Julie Noble said in a statement this past week. In this instance, members of the Common Council published false information about a 20+ year civil servant, with no mention of what I was actually accused of doing. Immediately after issuing their after-hours press release, they walked away, claiming to not be able to speak on the subject. Unfortunately, I have not been able to walk away from what they have done to me personally and professionally. Â
