Senior apartments to carry alderman’s name
The 60-unit affordable senior apartment building under construction at 1015 Howard St. was named this afternoon for retiring 8th Ward Alderman Ann Rainey.

The 60-unit affordable senior apartment building under construction at 1015 Howard St. was named this afternoon for retiring 8th Ward Alderman Ann Rainey.
Developer David Block of Evergreen Real Estate Group said the name would honor “one of the most dedicated public servants that I’ve ever worked with.”
Dozens of people turned out for the dedication ceremony.

P1 – 1101 Church St. adaptive reuse of former Sojourner Church
Chair Melissa Wynne, 3rd Ward, says it’s a great development, adaptive reuses.
Alderman Eleanor Revelle, 7th Ward, also praises the project.
Approved 6-0 for introduction.
It’s a ccreative use of an unused space in a changing neighborhood, Wynne says.

On April 9, Mayor Stephen Hagerty delivered his 2021 State of the City Address at the Evanston Chamber of Commerce’s State of the City Luncheon. The format of this year’s virtual event included a live question-and-answer session and recorded messages. Last year, the event was cancelled because of the global pandemic.

Evanston s 4th and 8th Wards will definitely each get a new alderman soon.

Evanston’s 4th and 8th Wards will definitely get a new alderman soon. Final results from the February primary show Alderman Don Wilson, 4th Ward, and Alderman Ann Rainey, 8th Ward, will each be replaced by a challenger.
In Ward 4, Jonathan Nieuwsma was first in the primary, Diane Goldring second, and Wilson third, 56 votes behind Goldring.
In Ward 8, Current City Clerk Devon Reid came in first, Matthew Mitchell second, and Rainey, the senior alderman with nine terms, was third by 18 votes.
Each ward also had write-in candidates, who failed to receive a significant number of votes.
