NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CNS) - A barricade situation in North Hollywood came to a peaceful end this morning when police took into custody a man suspected of being armed with knives and violating a restraining order who forced his way into a home.
The arrest came about 2:05 a.m., when the man finally surrendered to police, Los Angeles police officer F. Gonzalez said.
No injuries were reported.
The drama began when a 9-1-1 call was received from a house in the 6600 block of Alcove Avenue, near Coldwater Canyon Avenue, around 9 p.m., LAPD Officer William Cooper said.
Jim Bertram says visitors to Lubbock often comment about how uncluttered and clean the city looks, but usually can t pinpoint why.
Bertram, who was the planning director at the city for many years, says most of Lubbock s newer and younger residents probably can t identify it either, because they re used to it. The central parts of the city look a lot different now than they did in the 70 s and early 80 s, he says.
It s difficult to identify because the cleanliness is seen looking up.
Lubbock s strict ordinance related to business signs and billboards has been in place since 1975 it has survived several legal challenges and has been imitated in other cities across the state. Bertram and others who helped pass the ordinance decades ago are regular guests at city council meetings, still arguing to keep large billboards and overbearing business signs away from most zones across the city.
