City taking requests for Little Free Libraries

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Want a Little Free Library in your neighborhood? The city of Albuquerque is looking for places to install 21 new book-sharing boxes. It is taking applications from residents who want to maintain them. Applications are open to anyone, but the city said in a news release it will prioritize requests coming from low-income areas, neighborhoods near Title 1 schools and places “without existing accessible literacy resources such as public libraries.” Little Free Libraries are public book boxes meant to promote sharing. Users can take books to read or leave books for others. ...................... According to the city’s nonprofit partner Wisconsin-based Little Free Library there are now over 100,000 registered boxes around the world.

First Born Program Hosts Holiday Baby Gift Event - 6:43 pm First Born Program News: The First Born Program of Los Alamos distributed baby gifts Saturday, Dec. 19 to member families. Each of the 70 families received a beautiful handcrafted wooden toy and a previously loved book. The babies were delighted to choose which book and toy to take home. The gift bag also included cookies baked by Borrow a Baker. Though the morning was quite cold for a drive up outdoor event, the joyful smiles brought warmth and good cheer. One parent exclaimed, “Wow, this is amazing! I feel like our family just got a big hug from the community. We will treasure these gifts.”
