Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected for the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
On Friday, an approaching upper-level storm will bring numerous thunderstorms across the area. Some of those storms could produce heavy rain and excessive runoff.
The main threat for heavy rain will be in area mountains, according to NWS. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches with isolated higher amounts will be possible.
According to NWS, the threat for heavy rain will continue west on Saturday and then lower rain chances east of the Rio Grande.
For Sunday, slightly below average high temperatures with scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms and isolated thunderstorms in the lowlands.

Montgomery: Alabama is turning to social media to encourage more people to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The Department of Public Health announced a TikTok contest to encourage young people to get vaccinated before the start of the school year. The contest is for people ages 13 to 29. To participate, contestants should submit a TikTok video showing themselves getting vaccinated or include a creative message explaining, “This is why I got vaccinated.” All videos must tag @alcovidvaccine, #getvaccinatedAL and #ADPH. Winners will be determined based on creativity, originality and popularity measured by the numbers of likes and shares. The videos should be submitted by Aug. 6. EL PASO, Texas Musicians with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra say they are tremendously excited to perform in front of the public again. Finally to be outside and playing concerts after a year of not being able to actually perform, said Bohuslav Rattay, the orchestra s music director and conductor. These guys back there are actually excited to be playing outside for people!
Over the weekend, musicians performed for 45 minutes at Album Park on Saturday night, featuring a quintet of the symphony s brass section.
Like so many artists, their season was postponed because of Covid-19.
78-year-old El Paso woman dies as car crashes into tree in Album Park

EL PASO, Texas A 78-year-old El Paso woman whose car crashed into a tree in a park is the city s 15th traffic fatality of the year, police said Monday.
Investigators said Estela Romano died at a hospital shortly after her car went off the road along a curve in the 10100 block of Lockerbie Avenue last Thursday; she drove over the curb and into Album Park before crashing into a tree. According to witnesses, Romano’s Honda Accord did not appear to slow as it continued to travel east through the park, ultimately crashing, police wrote in an incident report released Monday.
