A trailer dropped yesterday for
Georgetown, a movie starring (and directed by) Christoph Waltz as a social-climbing murderer who’s based on Albrecht Muth, the 47-year-old man who was convicted of killing his 91-year-old wife, Viola Drath, in their Georgetown row house in 2011. The film will debut in theaters on May 14 and On Demand on May 18.
Inspiration for the movie comes from journalist Franklin Foer’s
The Worst Marriage in Georgetown, published in 2012. Plenty of Washington power players make appearances in the article, including Antonin Scalia and Dick Cheney. The trailer itself features images of Georgetown row houses and mentions of parties at the couple’s Q Street home.
Rolling Stone Watch Christoph Waltz Spin Web of Lies in ‘Georgetown’ Trailer
The film is the actor’s directorial debut

Paramount has released the trailer for
Georgetown, directed by and starring Christoph Waltz alongside Annette Bening and Vanessa Redgrave. The film, in theaters May 14 and on digital May 18, was inspired by the bizarre true story of Albrecht Muth.
The film’s official synopsis notes, “Waltz stars as Ulrich Mott, an eccentric and smooth-talking social climber who seems to have everyone in Washington, D.C. wrapped around his finger. But when his wealthy, well-connected and much older wife (Redgrave) turns up dead in their home, her daughter Amanda (Bening) suspects Ulrich may not be all that he seems as the police investigation begins to uncover a larger deception that goes far deeper than anyone ever imagined.”
