Article content Recently, there has been criticism of the University of Alberta’s programs that have connections to China, including an op-ed in the Edmonton Journal on May 18. These issues are complex, but I am confident that the U of A has chosen the right path by seeking to foster a far better understanding of China both within the university and more broadly in Alberta and Canada. There are legitimate concerns about the protection of intellectual property and related security issues. In this regard, the U of A has sought specific advice from the Government of Canada, and looks forward to the anticipated June release of the report of the Government of Canada Universities Working Group, which includes the U of A, on how to best address university security issues.
