safe and out of that water. jane: i know you ll listen to watch it, thanks. you got it. jon: of course, it was next door in arkansas that that terrible flooding hit the albert pike recreation area and now searchers have announced that they have found the 20th body, a person who was thought to be missing as a result of all of that terrible flooding that hit the campground in the middle of the night. a 20th body has been found and state police say they will continue to search. perhaps there is the possibility that there are other victims unknown as yet out there. the search will go on. but a 20th body has been located in arkansas. we will keep you updated as best we can. meantime president obama is on the ground in the gulf coast. it is his fourth visit there since the oil spill began. tomorrow night, he will talk to the nation about the oil disaster and on wednesday, he is supposed to get down to brass tacks with bp executives about the spill.
the flash floods, the remote area of the nature the radars don t catch low traveling storms which can be some of the most dangerous. so there wasn t a lot of warning time at all to anybody there. cell service is spotty at best. certainly the steep ravines and steep nature of the mountains as well as the valleys where the rivers are makes it very difficult. we have helicopters in there and we got the national guard over in oklahoma, i believe sent over a helicopter. there s helicopters now in the area helping with the search and rescue which is very helpful in that very steep terrain. and as you said it s extremely remote. senator lincoln, we appreciate your time today. now on to today s other big story. the gulf oil spill.
and severe weather expert, chad myers, for more. what exactly happened here, chad? a lot of rain, literally 9 inches of rain, fell in a bowl. this bowl, if you just think about it, if it rained on the top of the bowl and the other side of the top of the bowl, all that water drained into the bottom, because gravity works. in the bottom of that bowl was this campground, was, in fact, a very long stretch of campers, cabins, and, of course, the rvs that we know who were washed away in this. let me show you what we re talking about and how this bowl all kind of shaped up and how this rain really just took its toll last night with now pushing two dozen killed here. let me take you to the albert pike campground. it s on the western side of arkansas. in the ouachita mountain ranges, now these mountains are quite sharp. they go up and down. they actually run from the east to the west. not very many mountains in america do that, most of them go north and south, and right here at this albert pi
it s the most frightening kind of disaster in rugged western arkansas. right now dozens of campers are rescued, but dozens more are dead or missing after being blind sighted by this disaster. tell us what s going on. you know, wochl, people like to use the word tragedy, but in this case, this really was a true tragedy for these families. as many as 300 people were camping in arkansas at a camp site along the little missouri river. now, imagine this, it is in the middle of the night. you are sleeping with your family, your kids, you re on a camping vacation when the water level rises from 3 feet to 20 feet in the middle of the night when it s pitch dark. at least 20 people now dead, dozens more are missing. and we have pictures from around the albert pike recreation area.
