CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – The Albemarle County Police Department is mourning the loss of their courthouse K-9. The 11-year old black lab has passed away after service as a “courthouse dog” trained by Service Dogs of Virginia.
Theo’s role was to offer a calm presence bringing comfort to victims and witnesses going through the legal process. He performed his services for 7 years, spending his days accompanying Albemarle Victim/Witness staff going about their duties.
His Albemarle Police obit says Theo’s laid-back demeanor made him ideal for the job. CHARLOTTSVILLE (WINA) – Albemarle Police are investigating a weekend shooting in an apartment complex off Whitewood Road. Police were called to 2334 Peyton Drive, in the Parks Edge Apartments across from Humphris Park around 1:30 Saturday morning. A male victim had already been transported by personal vehicle to UVa before officers arrived. The victim is reportedly in stable condition.
While a suspect is not known, police believe there’s no threat to the community at this time. Police are not releasing any other information, including if they know a motive.

Body Of Lincolnton Man Found In Albemarle

A missing Lincoln County man has been identified as a body found by Albemarle Police behind a building. The man was found last Thursday (April 29) and he was identified as 30-year-old Christopher Allen Jernigan of Lincolnton.
Work crews were in the process of demolishing the old Sagebrush building on NC 24-27 Bypass East when the body was discovered. The heavily decomposed body was sent to the North Carolina Chief Medical Examiner’s Office where it was identified as Mr. Jernigan.
Albemarle Police Department Detectives notified the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and family members about the death. Mr. Jernigan, who was homeless, was reported missing by family members on March 24, 2020. There were no apparent signs of foul play involved in the death.
