Marathon runners from close to home, around the world set to hit pavement in Albany on March 2

Local runner aims to call attention to atrocities in Tigray

It is not easy to watch friends suffer through the horrors of a determined effort to eliminate their families and ethic group through the tools of murder, rape, and famine. Husband and wife, Geb Kiros and Tsige Tadesse were born in the Tigray region and grew up in north west Ethiopia. She left Ethiopia in 1987 to live in Greece until 1990 when she moved to Philadelphia. She found her way to Tallahassee in 2006.   Despite all the wonderful athletes from Ethiopia we get to watch compete throughout the world, fabulously representing their country, there is a history of ethnic based violence that sets the second largest country in Africa back from its potential. And builds resentments that smolder and come to life again at unexpected times.

(WALB) - The annual SNICKERS Marathon Weekend that is held every year in Albany has been postponed, according to a press release. Albany Marathon, Inc., Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, MARS Wrigley and community leaders decided to postpone the 2021 SNICKERS Marathon Weekend because of safety concerns associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. “This was a very difficult decision, but it is in the best interest of our community, all participants and spectators,” said Chuck Knight, the chairman of the Albany Marathon, Inc. board of directors. “The COVID-19 situation is too fluid to accurately predict the conditions we will see in March. We don’t want to do anything to risk the health and safety of anyone involved as we are also following the lead of the City of Albany as the
