There are nearly 3.6 million eligible voters for the elections, including those living overseas. They will cast ballots at more than 5,000 voting centers across the country to elect 140 parliament members. Meanwhile, over 7,500 police officers will be on duty during the elections, according to the Albanian State Police. The voting process is considered crucial for Albania as the Balkan country seeks to launch full membership negotiations with the EU later this year. Over 23,000 Albanians currently positive with COVID-19 are prohibited from voting due to isolation requirements.
