Police authorities in Italy have nabbed 23 Nigerians, 27 Albanians, 4 Italians and 1 Gambian following a crackdown on an international criminal group involved in drug dealing, Albanian Daily reports.
Led by an Albanian man called Gerado Bejaj, and a Nigerian identified as Momodu Sule, the group is accused of moving tons of marijuana and other substances outside and within Italy.
US Ambassador to Albania, Yuri Kim, welcomed the agreement between Albania and Greece to jointly fight illegalities at their border crossing points, saying it was “good to see our friends working together to solve shared problems.”
Greece and Albania on Monday signed an agreement establishing a new “communications centre” on the land border between the two countries, aimed at strengthening cooperation between their police forces and customs offices, reported Greek daily Kathimerini. Signed by Greece’s Deputy Minister for Citizens’ Protection, Eleftherios Economou, and Albania’s Deputy Interior Minister for border issues, Julian Hodaj, the agreement seeks to “strengthen existing cooperation, find solutions for managing and combating modern-day challenges and security threats,” the Greek official said.
