Elizabeth Ayade, the wife of Frank Ayade – a brother of the Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, on Monday failed to show up at the Federal Capital Territory Police Command over a petition she wrote against the journalist and activist, Agba Jalingo. The police last Friday arrested Jalingo after hours of laying siege to his Lagos residence. He was arrested for allegedly defaming the character of Elizabeth. The journalist was later detained at Alapere Police Station, Lagos. He was moved to Abuja on Saturday.
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, has urged the Nigerian Police Force to terminate the investigation into complaints of "defamation and infringement of integrity" against journalist Agba Jalingo. According to the senior lawyer in a statement on Sunday, Jalingo did not commit any offence as prescribed by the Criminal Code or the Cybercrime Act. Falana on Saturday also described the detention of Jalingo by the police as a contravention of the provisions of Nigerian law.

The Take-It-Back Movement led by human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has said it will be directing its members in Lagos State to occupy the Area F Police Command, Ikeja, should the police refuse to free journalist Agba Jalingo. Jalingo had been reportedly detained at the Alapere Police Station before his transfer to the Area Command. The wife of the activist, Violet Agba, who confirmed the development, added that the police planned to transfer the activist to Abuja on Saturday morning.
The Rule of Law And Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has condemned the unlawful detention of a Nigerian journalist and activist, Agba Jalingo, by the Nigerian Police on Friday. The group made this known in a release on Saturday by the Executive Director, Okechukwu Nwanguma, stating that an allegation of defamation should not justify the manner in which the operatives of the Nigerian Police invaded his residence and held him in detention.
