Strapped in the front seat of an ambulance as her daughter lay injured in the back, Kaye Steinsapir took out her phone and began to type.
“Please. Please. Please,” she wrote in part. “Everyone PRAY for my daughter Molly. She has been in an accident and suffered a brain trauma.” Later that day, at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, she tweeted her message.
Her daughter, 12, was injured while riding her bicycle with a friend near the family’s home in Los Angeles. Ms. Steinsapir, 43, said she was grasping for a tool that could quickly get her plea to as wide an audience as possible.
Del Mar
Multisport athlete Isaac Coulapides has wrestled, snowboarded, played volleyball and served on the cheer squad at Mt. Carmel High School, but the Sabre Springs teen said surfing holds a special place in his heart.
“I love the whole feeling of being out on the water,” said Coulapides, 17. “I can sit out there and enjoy how peaceful it is and be part of a great community of guys who are all my best friends.”
On Thursday, Coulapides was making new memories and new friends as one of 11 youth participants in a two-day Junior Seau Foundation Adaptive Surfing Camp, hosted by the Challenged Athletes Foundation at Del Mar State Beach.
