Sign Up An Easter Ross level crossing will finally be closed and a bridge built over it, almost exactly 14 years after an incident on the line which claimed two young lives. Highland councillors have approved Network Rail’s application for the bridge at Delny, near Barbaraville. Teenagers Alan Thain and Paul Oliver died on the crossing after the car they were in was struck by the Inverness to Wick train on February 2, 2007.

Network Rail s plans for the crossing have been recommended for approval by Highland Council officials. The local authority s north planning applications committee will consider the proposals at a meeting next week.

Sign Up Rail bosses are expected to get approval for a long-awaited bridge at a Highland level crossing which was the scene of a fatal crash. Network Rail have submitted renewed plans to the Highland Council for the closure of Delny level crossing in Easter Ross, following concerns over its safety. Developers are proposing to construct a new single carriageway over the rail bridge, adjacent to the level crossing, before closing the existing structure with appropriate fencing and signage installed.
