People lined up outside Coyote Joe s country nightclub in west Charlotte Saturday night. The nightclub reopened on Friday for the first time since March 2020.
North Carolina bars and nightclubs got their first taste of relaxed restrictions this weekend. It was the first weekend bars were allowed to serve people indoors in nearly a year.
At the Coyote Joe s country nightclub in west Charlotte, the line stretched well into the parking lot around 7 p.m. Saturday, just as the nightclub opened its doors and began welcoming patrons inside. Not everyone in line was six feet apart and only a few wore masks.

1. Charlotte is nowhere near COVID herd immunity
Only 8.4% of Mecklenburg County residents have received one COVID-19 vaccine. 4.3% have received both. Those figures are well below the threshold of roughly 65-85% of people vaccinated required to reach herd immunity, which would help stunt the spread of the coronavirus and provide protection, even for individuals still without inoculations.
