CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - A 2-year-old boy was shot Sunday morning in Lawndale.
The incident was called in around 10:30 a.m. on Douglas Street. Medics arrived to find the young child wounded inside a home.
Cleveland County Sheriff Alan Norman said the child suffered serious injuries but was alert at the scene. The boy was later airlifted to a Charlotte hospital.
“First and foremast we need to keep that child in our prayers,” Norman said. “This is unfortunate and uncalled for.”
Jerry Dalton Childers appeared in Cleveland County court Wednesday.
Sitting in a wheelchair, the 36-year-old is still suffering from injuries sustained the night he allegedly shot and killed a man in an apparent robbery.
Childers is one of three people charged with first-degree murder in the death of 73-year-old Thomas Talucci.
Robert Moore Dover, 51, and Kristen Nicole Price, 39, are also charged with first-degree murder in the case.
Cleveland County Sheriff Alan Norman said in an earlier interview that the fatal shooting looked to be the result of a robbery gone wrong.
In that interview, he said Talucci was helping Price by giving her some cleaning work to do, and that he wasn’t known to have any relationship with the two men allegedly involved.
