Sarawak DAP secretary Alan Ling Sie Kiong has called for the Sarawak state election to be postponed to next year until the Covid-19 situation in the country is under control.
“The daily infection does not show any improvements. In fact, it is getting worse. In Sarawak, the cases are still high even though there were days we see the cases below 200,” said Ling, according to the
Borneo Post.
KUALA LUMPUR - The shocking rape case of a 16-year-old girl while being held by Malaysian police in Sarawak recently has raised calls for an independent inquiry and spotlighted once again alleged shortcomings of the force.
There have also been renewed calls for the formation of an independent body to oversee police misdeeds, a plan that has been repeatedly rejected by the cops.
The authorities have promised that there would be no cover-up and those involved will be brought to justice, similar to promises made in cases involving the deaths of criminal suspects in police custody and policemen who have been nabbed for myriad corrupt activities.

KUCHING: Police investigation into an incident in which a 16-year-old girl claimed that she was raped by a male detainee while being held at the Miri police station lockup on Jan 9 found that a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage was unavailable.
Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail said he had instructed his deputy Datuk Fisol Salleh to coordinate the internal investigation and the results would be known this week.
“There is a CCTV camera installed in the lockup, but it does not have recording function and it can only be monitored by personnel on duty. I have also instructed the investigation team to look into it,” he said at the press conference on the achievement of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Sarawak contingent for the year 2020 here today.
