Catherine Kelsey, who has died of cancer aged 58, was the doyenne of advice on British independent schools at Gabbitas, the educational consulting company, where she was director of elite clients.
She was born Catherine Swan at Boxford, Suffolk on October 20 1962, the daughter of Sir Conrad Swan, Garter Principal King of Arms, and his wife Lady Hilda, daughter of the 3rd Earl of Iddesleigh and great granddaughter of Sir Stafford Northcote, Disraeli’s Chancellor of the Exchequer.
