I wish to comment on State Rep. Russ Diamond’s guest column published in the Jan. 26 edition. The subject of his column was, “Bringing equity and fairness to the state’s appellate courts.”
His recommended method of accomplishing this is House Bill 38, which would create regional judicial districts from which judges, who sit on the state’s appellate courts, would be chosen (elected). This contrasts with the current practice of electing appellate court judges on a statewide basis.
Mr. Diamond professes that “such regional diversity is desirable on our appellate courts for the same reason regional diversity is desirable in the General Assembly.” I would not want a legislator from Berks, Beaver or Allegheny counties being the advocate the only advocate for my home in the County of Bucks.
