Contracting Community Welcomes Biden’s Budget Proposal
Groups see opportunities with the administration s cybersecurity, climate change and workforce innovation priorities.
The federal contracting community is generally pleased with President Biden’s $6 trillion budget request for fiscal 2022 released last Friday, as it sees opportunities with the administration s cybersecurity, climate change and workforce innovation priorities.
Biden is proposing a 16% increase in non-defense discretionary spending from fiscal 2021 ($769 billion) and a 1.7% increase for defense spending ($753 billion). The president’s detailed budget request, sent to Congress late last week, outlines how the administration is “recommitting to good government” and re-empowering the federal workforce to deliver for the American people.
Now hiring for next set of Presidential Innovation Fellows
Originally a brainchild of the Obama-Biden tech office, the Presidential Innovation Fellows program is now looking for its eighth cohort of in-house federal tech innovators. How has it changed, and what lessons might the program offer for recruiting top tech talent into the government?

Krishna Juluru wasn’t exactly in need of a new job when he applied to take a tech sabbatical in the government.
Juluru was the founder and director of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, and he was, as he put it, a “happy camper.” But he wanted to think differently and work on larger-scale problems, so he applied to the Presidential Innovation Fellows program, which offers tech practitioners government stints of up to two years.
The industry execs on FCW s Federal 100 list for 2021
Each year our sibling publication FCW releases its Federal 100 a list of the women and men who “personify what’s possible in federal IT.”
That’s how FCW Editor-in-Chief Troy Schneider described it last week when the the 2021 winners were announced. Hundreds of nominations were submitted. A panel of government and industry judges winnowed submissions down to the 100.
FCW will be reporting on the winners over the coming months and it all culminates in the Fed 100 gala on Aug. 27. Yes: the plan is to do it in person. Fingers crossed. It’s always a great night.
