Union groups give Duterte’s performance a grade of ‘poor, poor, poor’
MANILA A local advertisement here in the Philippines once asked – where can your P20 bring you? For government workers here, it meant a measly salary increase in the last five years of President Rodrigo Duterte.
“(President Duterte’s) performance is very poor among our ranks, especially on our calls for salary increase. While the military enjoys their 50-percent salary increase, government employees receiving salary grade one only got a P20-increase,” said Social Welfare Employees Association of the Philippines (SWEAP) President Alan Balaba.

The Social Welfare Employees Association of the Philippines (SWEAP-National) has decided to withdraw its affiliation with the Confederation for Unity, Recognition, and Advancement of Government Employees (Courage) over issues concerning the latter’s collection of fees from members, the activities being engaged, and the services given to affiliate members.

The SWEAP-National Council bared its decision to end its almost 21 years of affiliation with Courage in a three-page resolution.
“The affiliation of SWEAP with Courage had been put into question in recent years, particularly the fees being collected and its utilization, the activities being engaged, and the services being provided to affiliate members,” it said. “These issues led to the clamor among the members of the association, including the members of the National Council, to discuss and evaluate the affiliation.”
