EDWARDSVILLE The Madison County Board has approved rezoning a tract near Union School Road and Alad Drive for a 155-foot-high communications tower.
Madison County Board Member Mike Walters of Godfrey said the new tower will improve communications for people in or near Alton High School and Southwestern High School.
“Sometimes I lose connections while I’m driving on Illinois 255,” he said.
A spokesman for the real estate company developing the tower for AT&T said some people in that area have no service.
The county zoning ordinance allows towers up to 75 feet high, but county officials said that, if the higher tower is not approved, the company would build two 75-foot high towers in two locations.
