University of Alabama researchers call for state lottery to pay for college

Researchers at the University of Alabama think the time is right for a lottery in the state, and they have an idea where Alabama should spend the hundreds of millions it would bring in each year: College.
A lottery dedicated to helping Alabama students afford college, and especially community college, could have lasting affects on the state’s economy, contend researchers at UA’s Education Policy Center.
“Because Alabama lacks a comprehensive student-aid program and lags far behind in college degree attainment, it is extremely important to provide assistance to the students most lacking educational and workforce development opportunities,” the new report reads.
